Colic Awareness Week tip of the day! Have you thought about what you would do if your horse gets a serious colic? Up to 24% of colics seen by the vet may be critical and require referral to hospital or euthanasia. It is worth having a plan for how you will transport the horse in an emergency: i.e. do you have transport? What will you do if you can’t get hold of your friend who has promised to do it and it’s 4am? Does your insurance policy cover colic and for how much? If surgery is an option for you horse, is this something you would consider? If you are away, do your friends/family know what your wishes are? Issues like this can really slow down the process at a critical and stressful time. Preparation can save time and serious stress!
