James

(Equine Vet and Director)

James

James graduated from Liverpool University in 2009. He worked in mixed practice in North Yorkshire for two years after qualifying, before heading back to the Philip Leverhulme Equine Hospital (University of Liverpool) for a 12-month equine internship. James worked in various places, including abroad in Australia and in equine practice in Somerset before returning to his home in South Devon and joining South Moor Vets in 2016. James has a post graduate certificate in equine practice and is interested in all aspects of equine veterinary work. James is kept busy outside of work by his young family and making the most of living in this lovely part of the world.

Hannah

Hannah

Hannah graduated from the University of Bristol in 2014. After graduation she worked in a busy mixed practice in Nottinghamshire, focussing mainly on equine work before moving back to the South West to join South Moor in 2018. Whilst Hannah enjoys all aspects of equine veterinary work she has a particular interest in sport’s horse medicine and stud work. Hannah has achieved a post graduate certificate in advanced veterinary practice. Away from work, Hannah enjoys exploring Dartmoor with her two spaniels Bramble and Rhubarb, attempting to paddleboard and competing her horse Spud.

Marion
Veterinary Surgeon

Marion

Marion has been with South Moor Vets for over 20 years. Originally from Hampshire, she lived in several areas before settling in South Devon. She has had an interest in animals since a small child. Her focus is now on equine, pets and exotics and she has a particular interest in gun dogs. She is the Equine Vet at our Kingsbridge practice. She enjoys the close relationship with clients with whom her understanding of their animals is well established. Her spare time is spent with her large number of dogs as well as caring for her horses, sheep, alpacas and being outside enjoying the South Hams countryside.

Laura

Laura

Laura graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London, in 2017 and has been working at South Moor ever since. During her veterinary studies she undertook an intercalated year at the University of Bristol in 2015, gaining a BSc in Animal Behaviour and Welfare and published a paper in the Journal of Veterinary Anaesthesia on assessing post-surgical pain in horses. Laura has previously spent time volunteering with various veterinary charities around the world including in Egypt, Goa and the Kwa-Zulu Natal province, South Africa and looks forward to returning to work alongside these charities in the future. Laura has gained her post graduate certificate in Equine Internal Medicine and enjoys all aspects of internal medicine, as well as having a special interest in behaviour. Outside of work Laura is usually found riding her horse Bear or exploring mountains and moorland with her two dogs Monty and Tinker.

Jess

Jess joined the South Moor team in August 2022. Jess graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2020 and started her career as an equine intern at Oakham Equine Hospital. Jess then moved into equine practice in the Midlands where she gained a large amount of experience with emergency and out of hours work, as well as routine patient care. Originally being from Devon, in summer 2022 Jess decided to move back home and joined the South Moor Equine Vets team. Jess is currently working towards an equine post graduate certificate. In her spare time she enjoys long walks with her spaniel Maggie and making the most of being by the sea and moors!

Francesca

Francesca

Francesca graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2022 and joined the team at South Moor soon after to start her career as an equine vet. Francesca grew up in the area and was a keen Dartmoor Pony Club member. She now finds time to ride around juggling a young family, work and her menagerie of animals. Francesca is interested in all aspects of equine veterinary practice, with a special interest in lameness. In her spare time she can be found walking and riding with her family and two dogs: Arya the Springer Spaniel and Mabel the Labrador.

The Client Care team play an integral role, ensuring the clients receive the very best service and making sure the process is as straight-forward and smooth as possible, to get your horses the care they need, when they need it.

Equine Receptionist and Claims Administrator

Claire

When Claire is not working you will usually find her grooming for her daughters at either Shows, Point-to-Points or British eventing! She has been involved with horses all her life riding nearly 100 winners PTP/NH and produced HOYS ponies for both of her daughters for WHP/SHP/SP for the last 15 years before moving on to race horses and eventers. Because of her own experience she particularly enjoys working with our equine clients.

Claire S

Claire has worked with animals for over 20 years, and has had various job roles which include veterinary nursing, kennel and cattery management, and veterinary receptionist.

Throughout her career, Claire has demonstrated a deep commitment to animal welfare, and used to volunteer at a horse sanctuary to support and rehabilitate animals in need.
Outside of work, Claire enjoys rugby, running, long dog walks with her labrador Reef and spending time with her family and friends.
